Hawkeye Pricing

epaCUBE vs. Hawkeye Pricing

epaCUBE is built around a price matrix and a team of pricing analysts who work through it with you. You send them your transactions, they send back a scorecard, and you meet to set prices one segment at a time.

Hawkeye’s AI agents do that work themselves. Every night they read your ERP, check every SKU for every customer, and hand your team the price changes worth making, with the reason for each one.

With epaCUBE, your team sits in the meetings. With Hawkeye, they approve the list.

What is epaCUBE?

epaCUBE is pricing software for wholesale distributors, sold with ongoing help from its pricing consultants. It started as a consulting firm in 2001 and is based in Fort Worth, Texas. Cordance, a holding company backed by the private equity firm Aquiline, bought it in 2024. It has about 20 employees.

Its customers are mostly HVAC, electrical, plumbing and industrial distributors, from about $10 million in revenue up. It’s an NAED Preferred Provider and a HARDI partner.

Its products:

  • Profit Optimizer grades customers A, B, C or D, sets a floor, ceiling and target price for each product segment, and feeds them into a price matrix.
  • Sales Assistant shows price guidance to reps while they quote.
  • Contract Manager tracks contracts and flags ones that are stale or expiring.
  • Pricing Engine holds pricing rules for tiers, exceptions, contracts and catalogs.
  • Rebate Manager and Product Data Manager handle rebate claims and product data cleanup.

epaCUBE pros and cons

Pros

  • You can see how each price was set. epaCUBE calls it a glass-box approach.
  • Hands-on support. Customers in its case studies praise how fast its people respond.
  • Strong ties to distributor associations like NAED and HARDI.
  • Helps branches price the same item the same way.

Cons

  • It runs on people. Its own case studies describe weekly or twice-weekly meetings with epaCUBE’s team for months, and in one case years.
  • Data goes out in batches. One customer says: “Every Monday our IT guy sends a report of our weekly transactions to epaCUBE. They run it through and usually give us a scorecard by Tuesday.”
  • It prices segments, not items. Another customer describes setting prices “node by node” for eight months.
  • Your item and cost data needs cleaning before the matrix is any good, which is why it sells a separate data cleanup product.
  • No published pricing. The 10x return it markets is its own number.

Why distributors pick Hawkeye over epaCUBE

  • No standing meetings. The agents do the analysis and your team approves the changes.
  • Every SKU gets checked, not just its segment. Hawkeye finds the item still on a price from 2022 while the rest of the line moved twice.
  • Nobody sends a weekly report. Hawkeye reads the ERP directly.
  • Approved prices are in your ERP the next day. A packaging equipment maker approved 60 in one meeting.
  • You pay on margin added, and the bill lists every sale it’s based on.

When to look for a epaCUBE alternative

  • Your pricing person can’t give up two afternoons a week to vendor meetings.
  • Costs move faster than your matrix gets updated.
  • You have thousands of SKUs and catch-all part numbers a segment target can’t fit.
  • You can’t tell which of last year’s matrix changes actually added margin.
  • You want to see results on your own invoices before you buy anything.

Questions about epaCUBE and Hawkeye

What is epaCUBE?

epaCUBE is pricing software for wholesale distributors, sold together with ongoing help from its pricing consultants. It started as a consulting firm in 2001, is based in Fort Worth, Texas, and has been owned by Cordance, a software holding company backed by Aquiline, since 2024. Its main product is Profit Optimizer.

How does epaCUBE set prices?

Profit Optimizer groups customers by buying power, profitability and cost to serve, grades them A, B, C or D, and sets a floor, ceiling and target price for each product segment. Those feed a price matrix. Your team and epaCUBE’s analysts review and adjust the recommendations, often in weekly or twice-weekly meetings.

How much does epaCUBE cost?

epaCUBE doesn’t publish prices. It markets a 10x return on Profit Optimizer, but doesn’t publish the terms behind that number.

Which ERPs does epaCUBE work with?

epaCUBE’s case studies name Epicor Prophet 21, Epicor Eclipse, DDI System and a homegrown ERP. Hawkeye works with Epicor Eclipse, Epicor P21, Epicor Kinetic, Infor CloudSuite, NetSuite, SAP and Abas, among others.

How is Hawkeye Pricing different from epaCUBE?

epaCUBE gives you a price matrix and a team of analysts to work through it with you. Hawkeye’s AI agents do that work themselves. They read your ERP every night, check every SKU for every customer, and give your team specific price changes with the reason for each one. Approved prices go back into the ERP, and Hawkeye tracks every sale at the new price.

What are the alternatives to epaCUBE?

Distributors looking at epaCUBE usually also look at SPARXiQ, Zilliant and Hawkeye Pricing. Many still price in spreadsheets or with the matrix tools built into their ERP.
