SPARXiQ vs. Hawkeye Pricing

SPARXiQ is built around margin targets for groups of customers and products. You send it your data, it sends back recommendations, and your team loads them into the ERP. Between refreshes, prices sit still.

Hawkeye’s AI agents check every SKU for every customer, every night. When a cost moves under a price that didn’t, your team gets the change and the reason that day, not at the next refresh.

SPARXiQ helps you build a pricing structure. Hawkeye keeps every price inside it current, even with an overworked pricing team, or none at all.

What is SPARXiQ?

SPARXiQ is a pricing, sales analytics and sales training company in Cleveland, Ohio. David Bauders founded it in 1993 as Strategic Pricing Associates. It was renamed SPARXiQ in 2020 and is still run by its founders.

It has worked with Epicor since 2007 and is the engine behind Epicor’s Strategic Pricing module. Most of its customers are electrical, HVAC, plumbing and industrial distributors.

Its products, sold as the GPS suite:

  • PriceGPS sets target prices and margin ranges by customer and product group, with override limits by role and a dashboard of who priced outside them.
  • ContractGPS tracks contracts and makes bulk price updates.
  • RebateGPS handles rebates and special pricing agreements.
  • SalesGPS, MarketGPS and ProfitGPS cover sales analytics, market price benchmarks and profitability by customer, product line or branch.
  • Modern Sales Foundations is a video sales training course.

SPARXiQ pros and cons

Pros

  • More than 30 years in distribution pricing.
  • Deep Epicor ties. It powers Epicor’s own Strategic Pricing module.
  • Helps a distributor that has never segmented its customers set up a pricing structure.
  • Override controls that let managers see which reps discount past the limits.

Cons

  • Recommendations are built from data you send in batches. You load them into the ERP yourself, and they’re only as current as the last batch.
  • It prices groups, not items. A SKU gets its group’s target, so messy item data or catch-all part numbers get averaged in with everything else.
  • Much of the software watches what reps do after the fact: override reports and dashboards someone has to read and act on.
  • Pricing is one part of a broad suite that also covers training, rebates, point-of-sale data and a contractor marketplace.
  • No published pricing.

Why distributors pick Hawkeye over SPARXiQ

  • Every SKU gets checked, not just its group. Hawkeye finds the item still on a price from 2022 while the rest of the line moved twice.
  • It catches cost changes the night they hit the ERP, not at the next refresh.
  • Nobody has to build a data file every month. Hawkeye reads the ERP directly.
  • Each change comes with the reason, so your team knows what to do, not just what the dashboard shows.
  • You see what every approved change brought in, sale by sale.

When to look for a SPARXiQ alternative

  • You already have segments and margin targets, but costs move faster than you refresh them.
  • Someone on your team spends days each month pulling data for a pricing vendor.
  • Catch-all part numbers and bad costs mean your group targets are wrong for a lot of items.
  • You can’t tell which of last year’s price changes actually added margin.
  • Your SPARXiQ renewal is coming up and you want to compare.
